Our Story
Welcome to Eula’s Flower Farm. I am your flower farmer, Kim Japinga. Eula’s is a family flower farm located in Holland, MI. Our beginnings were inspired by the beauty, joy and soothing stress relief that locally grown flowers provide.
Flowers have always been a part of my Japinga family’s lore. My great-grandmother Champion, referred to as Mrs. Roy Champion in those days, was a true flower enthusiast. As her hometown newspaper, the Holland Sentinel, noted in 1954:
“Let’s Plant Beauty—Mrs. Champion’s Garden Impressive to Visitors
If you have traveled down River Ave. you have noticed the conspicuous contribution which Mrs. Roy Champion makes to the beauty of the city on her property at 36 West 12th Street. Visitors passing through our town cannot help but carry away a better impression of us because of it. . . .”
Great-grandma Champion’s daughter, Eula, is the namesake of Eula’s Flower Farm. Her daughter and my grandma, Eula Japinga, loved the happiness and enjoyment flowers could bring, in any form. Eula was an art teacher and used those talents to make great flower displays and fresh flower bouquets, drawing on her artist’s eye for color and composition.
My passion for growing flowers, however, was motivated by my sister, Dawn. She introduced me to planting flowers in containers and the care needed to help them survive the summer. Her instruction and love for gardening led me to grow flowers in my own backyard. I became hooked.
After moving back to Holland in 2020, several of our family members experienced illnesses that left me stressed and saddened. I found that working in the garden, growing flowers and cutting flowers for arrangements provided the best relief imaginable. Looking at the bouquets and flowers in my garden gave me a sense of calm, appreciation for the beauty of nature and joy. I want to bring that same feeling to you, my community.
My cup will be filled every time Eula’s Flower Farm is able to share these fresh, stunning cut flowers and the feelings of peace, calm and joy they evoke with you.
